I only got unstuck once I stopped chasing channels and started chasing specific complaints.
I picked one tiny segment (“ops leads at small SaaS who hate manual reporting”), then spent a couple weeks just searching their exact phrases on Reddit, LinkedIn, and random Slack communities. Any time I saw someone griping, I’d reply with a concrete fix they could try today, then add a casual “I’m actually building a small tool around this, if you want I can walk you through what I have.” No links, no launch page, just Calendly and Loom.
Tagging every convo by “problem words” and source gave me copy and a hint on where to double down. Cold DMs only worked when they referenced a post or comment I’d already seen from them.
Tool‑wise, I bounced between F5Bot and Mention, and ended up on Pulse for Reddit because it caught those niche threads I was missing in real time so I could reply before 20 others piled on. First 200–300 users came from that grind, then referrals started doing more of the work.
