local SEO slump - anyone else hit a wall?

Been with a local SEO agency for about three months and was ramping up nicely. April was my best month - multiple clients cracking the local pack, new citations firing, even a couple of GBP optimisation wins that felt like gold. Then, like a switch flipped, everything's gone quiet. I'm still auditing, still building citations, still doing the same outreach - but the leads are harder, the client calls are shorter, and a few have been outright rude. my team mates are pulling ahead on conversions, and I'm sat here wondering if my early momentum was just beginner's luck.

I know the Google algorithm has its cycles, but this feels different. Nothing's changed in our process. i'm taking the weekend to regroup - any local SEOs here go through these slumps? how do you snap back without over-optimising or burning out?

yep, slumps happen even when your activity levels haven't changed. a few things that have helped me and some agency sales colleagues:

Pull a handful of your own calls from your best week and compare them to this week. chances are you're unconsciously rushing or sounding less curious on recent ones.
Tighten the first 20 seconds: pattern interrupt, a clear reason for the call, then a quick question. No filler.
If leads feel ruder than usual, that's often a signal your opener is either too long or too vague.

call recording is overrated for diagnosing slumps. Usually just noise from overanalysis. Look at lead source splits or offer fatigue instead. Sales Co helps, but only if you've fixed the funnel upstream first.

Slow month? That's effort drift, not ability. Every time this hits me, I audit the winning line items from the previous period - copy the exact targeting logic and creative hook. Pretty much the same here. Bulk of my income comes from maybe half a dozen decent sales across the year. You can go a month without anything meaningful moving. Just keep grinding and don't let the slow stretches get in your head.

Nice, what's the sales cycle like on that? I sell freight services and I've cold called in the morning and onvoarded the customers that same day and made 1000$ worth by the end of day. That's uncommon and ive only done it twice. I would say generally from first contact to customer in my field is 17 days to 4 months. Sometimes i get referrals and those are easier.

It seems like with expensive machinery it's more of a legacy buy, which means it's well thought out and planned by your customer. Is that a safe assumption?

Yeah, cycles are brutal. Short ones run 3 to 6 months, but you're usually looking at 6 to 18. Just unloaded a machine that took four years to close. Early on you're stuck moving used gear and whatever's in stock just to keep the lights on. If you schmooze the right contact at a big company that suddenly needs extra capacity, you could land a whole system in 30 days. never happened to me though.
