I've got the skills to build custom automated systems that solve real business problems. Because each solution depends on the company's existing infrastructure, I sell tailored services, not a packaged product.
For the past couple of months, I've been trying to land my first client, and nothing's working. Here's what I've tried and the roadblocks:
- LinkedIn & Facebook Groups: My organic posts barely get any views. Building an audience through active commenting to please the algorithm would take forever, with no guarantee of ROI.
- Cold Emailing: Straight-up illegal in my country for marketing without prior consent. I'd love to start with a few local clients before going global, but it feels like I'm out of legal options.
- Networking Events: I feel totally out of place. As an IT person at an event for cleaning company owners, it's impossible to naturally slide into conversations and pitch my services.
Every day I see people celebrating their first B2B sale, landing local clients, or hitting 1,000+ users.
Where and how are you actually finding these clients? Any advice for someone starting from absolute zero?
A colleague mentioned that local Facebook groups for business owners worked way better for them than big networking events - less awkward, and you can actually help people with real problems they post about. Are there groups for business owners? Apparently, yes - most cities have them on social media platforms that are popular in that country. For them, it was Facebook.
