Before you do anything, check your final payslip. Some companies will deduct the bloody cost if they think you nicked it. Seen it happen.

If you do manage to wipe it, you're golden. Knew a guy who pulled it off, used the laptop for months, then got rehired at the same place. They never even mentioned the old machine.

Just don't expect the company to unlock anything for you. They've got bigger problems during layoffs.

Depends entirely on the model, honestly. I had a MacBook Pro from a prior gig-tried to hand it back multiple times, they just wouldn't take it. So I kept the thing.
