so you get laid off, they never ask for the laptop back, and a year rolls by. Hypothetically, what are your options if the thing's locked down tighter than a drum? Specifically, say the security blocks external drives. Could you just wipe the hard drive and install a fresh OS?
Before you do anything, check your final payslip. Some companies will deduct the bloody cost if they think you nicked it. Seen it happen.
If you do manage to wipe it, you're golden. Knew a guy who pulled it off, used the laptop for months, then got rehired at the same place. They never even mentioned the old machine.
So... have you tried reformatting it back to factory? Might just work if the BIOS isn't locked
