I'm a PPC manager at an agency that got acquired back in March. Before that I'd been there three years, managing Google Ads for 25 clients with only one other specialist. When that person quit, they never replaced them - so I took on all 25 accounts alone.
One client is a law firm with a $60k monthly budget. They always want to spend more, but last month we were pacing slowly so I bumped up the daily budget to hit the $60k by April 30th. Completely forgot to reduce it on May 1st. Ended up overspending by $104k.
The craziest part? That overspend generated an extra $223k in revenue - more than covers the cost. But the client doesn't care. He wants the agency to foot the bill. Everyone's been respectful but obviously disappointed in me.
What nobody knows is that on May 1st I had a miscarriage. The same week my 24-year-old cat died, and my kid broke her leg. I only called in sick three days total. This was the first major mistake I've ever made in three years.
There's nothing in the contract about overages, and the client's card is attached directly to the ad platforms. Is the agency liable for the whole $104k? If they keep me, how do I recover from this? 😔 Just feeling completely gutted - both personally and professionally.
