Working on a digital PR strategy for a construction client where we've got a small remit and a very specific brief: thought leadership to boost their profile, brand visibility and SEO/AI performance. Problem is they're laser-focused on one topic -- shoring. They're the leading experts in it, but they refuse to newsjack or comment on broader construction trends because they're convinced it won't help their rankings for that exact keyword.
I did manage to push through a few articles on women in construction and industry policy changes, but they just came back and said those won't move the needle for 'shoring' specifically.
My current plan:
- Topic mapping: breaking shoring down into un-Googleable angles like urban regeneration, risk mitigation, etc.
- Executive profiling: pitching their lead expert for Q&As and interviews to humanise the brand while staying on topic.
- Content amplification: turning thought leadership pieces into micro-insights for LinkedIn and their own content hub for SEO.
- Competitor backlink analysis: finding where rivals are getting mentioned in the same niche.
Question is, what else can I do from a digital PR perspective that stays within a tight hourly budget and doesn't dilute their topical authority? I'm worried we'll hit a wall with trade editors if we only talk about shoring for six months. Has anyone successfully stretched a hyper-niche topic without losing the SEO benefit? Any lean PR tactics I'm missing for a technical engineering client?
