Honestly, "do check DMs" is the right move-but if you're serious about quality guest posts, you need to vet the sites before you pitch anything. I've been burned too many times by "high DR" blogs with zero traffic or spammy backlink profiles.
When I'm prospecting, I run every potential site through three filters:
- Traffic verification - Ahrefs or Similarweb. If a site claims DR 50+ but gets <500 monthly organic visits, it's a ghost town.
- Topic relevance - Their recent posts should align with your niche, not "everything under the sun." A FinTech guest post on a general marketing blog feels forced.
- Editorial standards - Check for actual bylines, proper formatting, and comments/engagement. If it looks like a PBN, walk away.
If you've got a specific target audience (e.g., SaaS founders, finance professionals), I'd rather find 3-5 high-relevance sites than 20 mediocre ones.
Happy to share the exact outreach template I use if you want to DM me-just make sure you're not going after sites that'll dilute your link profile. Quality over quantity every time.
