Mate, I've been there. Naming is brutal until you lock in a system.
Read Hello, My Name Is Awesome by Alexandra Watkins. It's a quick read, but it completely changed how I think about naming. Her Smile & Scratch test is gold - basically, if someone hears your name, can they instantly spell it and find it? If not, you're dead in the water.
Here's a framework I use on every app or landing page I launch:
- Easy to spell. Don't get cute with weird spellings. If they hear it once, they need to Google it without guessing.
- Scalable. Your name shouldn't box you into a single feature. I've seen apps die because they named themselves after one use case.
- Competitor distance. Don't pick something that makes customers wonder "is this the same as X?" You want zero confusion.
Watkins walks through the whole process with real examples. Honestly, skip the brainstorming alone - grab that book, run the exercises, and you'll have a shortlist in an afternoon. 👍
