No impressions for 10 days - any ideas?

I love Google Ads but this one has me totally stuck. Landscaping client, started a campaign on May 8th. Nothing. Zero impressions. I've been doing this a long time, so I tried my usual trick - duplicate the campaign and relaunch. Did that on May 11th. It's now the 19th and still not a single impression.

The keywords aren't too niche, and we're targeting specific zip codes where people definitely search for landscaping services. So why is it dead? No payment issues, account is new but fully verified - advertiser verification is done. Ad diagnostics says 'no issues' which just adds to the frustration.

When I check the ad preview tool, it claims 'no keywords matching the search term' even though I've typed in the exact keyword we're targeting. Client's starting to panic, and I've exhausted every fix I can think of.

Someone in another thread mentioned checking the search term report or bumping bids - but you can't see search terms if there are no impressions. I've already tried raising bids to stupid levels just to test. Nothing. Anybody seen this before?

No impressions after a week? Either your keywords are so niche they only exist in your head, or your bids are so low Google's algorithm cringes every time it sees them. Crack open the search term report - that'll tell you which flavour of disaster you're dealing with.

Switch to max clicks for the bid strategy first - that'll usually kickstart delivery if you're stuck on conversions. Also, double check you haven't got brand terms sitting in the ad group as negatives or exact match keywords that are just too restrictive. Nudge the match type to phrase or broad if you need volume.

When you see zero impressions after a week, it's rarely the keywords themselves that are the culprit. More often it's a subtle mismatch between match types and audience signals-like trying to water a plant in soil that's just a bit too alkaline. That copy/paste campaign almost certainly inherited some invisible restriction the original didn't have. I'd check the placement exclusions or any inherited negative targeting first; those ghost settings can kill momentum before you even notice.

I've run into this exact black hole more times than I care to count. The "ad preview message" is almost always a smoking gun for a negative keyword conflict, but it's rarely the only culprit. Here's my checklist when a campaign sits on zero impressions for over a week:

Negative keyword audit - Export your negative keyword lists (both campaign-level and shared) and cross-reference them against your full keyword set. Even a single broad-match negative can nuke a whole ad group if it overlaps with a term in your ad copy or landing page URL. Use the "search terms" report in Google Ads to spot conflicts, then Screaming Frog can help you map ad copy to landing page terms.
Exact match vs phrase match - If you're running a lot of exact match keywords, double-check that your negatives aren't phrased in a way that blocks variants. Google's own behaviour is messy here-sometimes a negative like "+free +shoes" blocks "buy cheap shoes" even if it's not an exact overlap.
Ad schedule and location settings - Sounds basic, but I've seen teams accidentally set ad scheduling to midnight-1am only, or exclude 90% of their target region. Always review the "Locations" and "Ad schedule" tabs alongside your bid adjustments.
Audience targeting - If you've layered remarketing lists or in-market audiences with "targeting" (not observation), you can create a scenario where no user qualifies for both the keyword and the audience simultaneously. Switch to observation until you get baseline data.
Quality score floor - Sometimes a new domain gets temporarily suppressed because Google needs to learn your landing page relevance. Check the "Quality Score History" for any "Below average" landing page experience, then test a different landing page URL or ad copy.

Try broad targeting with max clicks and see if anything actually stirs. Nine times out of ten, that'll kick the campaign out of its coma. You can worry about optimisation later - no point tuning a dead engine.

I've seen this a lot with new campaigns - exact match can really kill your early momentum if the account's fresh. Here's what I'd do: switch your keywords to broad match for at least a week. Let the algorithm learn what actually converts, then you can tighten back to exact match once you've got enough data to make informed cuts. You'll probably see a few clicks within a couple of days. After that, review search terms and add negatives aggressively before switching back.

three weeks trying to revive that account? brutal. the domain lapse alone probably tanked your quality score and reset any accumulated learning. that's a 2-week gap where the algorithm essentially forgets your audience - and now you're paying for it in lost activation velocity.

If the client wasn't live for that stretch, you're effectively relaunching from scratch. No impressions after a week usually means the system hasn't rebuilt bid eligibility or you're hitting a budget floor issue. I'd check if the campaign even has enough historical data to exit learning limited - anything under 50 conversions and you're dead in the water.

Your real ROI killer here is the cumulative delay: 2 weeks paused + 1 week zero impressions. That's 3 weeks of dead spend opportunity and zero audience engagement. if you're not auditing the domain re-verification and ad account health immediately, you're just burning more time
