Love seeing people hustle on directories, but let's be real: most are garbage. Launched a small AI meeting notes tool last week. First 24 hours? Three bloody visits. No Product Hunt launch, no audience - just me refreshing analytics like a madman.
So I spent three evenings submitting to directories. Found about 40 of them, actually got into 28. Some needed accounts, a few wanted custom descriptions, one or two approved within hours. I grabbed a big directory list from some founder toolkit while compiling mine, which sped things up a bit.
After 6 days: 312 visits, 17 signups. Most directories did absolutely nothing. But four startup/AI ones sent nearly all the traffic and a couple of backlinks. Still have about 9 listings pending approval.
The grind is real - 28 submissions for 17 users is honestly shit conversion if you look at time spent. But those four directories pulled their weight. Without them I'd be sat on zero.
Anyone else seen a similar pattern? Most directories are noise, but a select few actually deliver.
