Four years in ad films and content production. Great reel, big-name clients, freelance now. On paper, I'm scaling. But honestly? The ROI on my happiness is in the toilet.
Freelancing showed me I'm genuinely good at the sales side - closing clients, building pipelines, connecting. I love that part. The actual production work? Drain. Zero energy left for it. I'm grinding through projects I can execute well, but there's no leverage in it. Feels like I'm trading time for money with a cap.
Ad sales is the obvious pivot but I want out of the ad ecosystem entirely. Not another turf war in media. Sales skills transfer anywhere - SaaS, tech, even high-ticket services. I know I can ramp up faster than I did in production.
Trouble is I had this wake-up call two years ago and chickened out. Convinced myself I didn't know enough. Now I'm back in the same loop - depressed, anxious, waking up to a grind I'm too good at to hate. That's the trap.
Anyone made the jump from production to straight sales in a different industry? Need the roadmap. I'm done wasting runway on work that feels impactless.
