Things really took off after we ran Meta ads, and suddenly the WhatsApp lead volume became unmanageable. Honestly, the Business App just wasn't cutting it anymore - chats were slipping through the cracks, no way to tell who was handling what, and the conversation history was an absolute mess whenever someone else jumped in.
we moved to the official API a couple months back, and that helped, but now the real headache is picking the right tool to sit on top of it. Tried a cheap connector first, but it had zero CRM features. Now I'm looking for something that actually handles lead routing properly, has a proper shared inbox, and doesn't require a full developer ticket every time i want to tweak something small.
Anyone else managing decent lead volume through the WhatsApp API? What setup are you using, and what would you never go back to?
From what I've gathered, a shared inbox without proper lead routing is just a prettier mess. The two things that actually matter at volume: assignment rules that run automatically - not someone manually tagging chats - and a conversation view that shows the full history no matter who picked it up last. Most cheap connectors skip the first bit, so you end up triaging manually, which breaks the moment your team hits three people.
Tools I've seen mentioned: WATI or Waplify.io. both sit on top of the official API. The real difference is how much you can change without filing a support ticket. WATI needs a bit more setup, Waplify.io is aimed at SMBs that want to change routing and templates themselves without dev help.
What does your current routing logic look like - manual or rule-based?
