interesting post, but I've got three fundamental issues with this idea.
first, the "segment of one" problem - modern AI builds dynamic profiles from real-time browsing, scroll depth, even device type. that makes any standard "brand mention score" technically impossible. unlike Google rankings, there's no static database to pull from. visibility in ChatGPT and SEO are apples and oranges.
second, the synthetic data issue. Tools like Semrush or Nightwatch mostly run automated bots with fixed queries. Those bots don't have your context, history, or job role - so their "visibility scores" bear almost no resemblance to what actual human users see. It's not data, it's a simulation.
third, the transparency gap. OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, Perplexity - none of them expose analytics APIs for brand mentions. until they do, any tool claiming to "track" mentions is basically guessing. Directional surveillance at best, wild guesses at worst.
