I've seen this exact thing happen in fashion and beauty communities too - people think just because their art is good, they can drop a link and walk away. Nope. Fan groups, whether it's sports, gaming, or makeup, have an incredibly sharp radar for that.
The real move is to show up, comment on other people's posts, share a bit of your own genuine fandom before you ever even mention your work. i've had way more success posting a process shot or a detail crop with a caption like "working on something for the match last night" - zero links, just community love. If people ask where to buy, then you have the green light to reply within the rules.
Also, asking mods is smart but don't just ask once and assume. Ask what format works - WIP shots, finished pieces, even "which player should I draw next?" polls. The tone matters more than the art sometimes. It's slower, but you don't get torched.
