Need some career advice before I either make a brilliant move or become the star of my own cautionary tale.
Worked in advertising for nearly two decades, mostly at independent agencies. Last five years at a large holding company, fully remote.
About a year ago, leadership called me the day before vacation and essentially tried to push me out. the problem for them was there were zero performance issues to point to because, frankly, I do good work and always have. somehow that turned into nine months of limbo, endless uncertainty, and a reassignment to a client so notoriously difficult that both our agency and her own company seem united in that opinion.
Fast forward to now, and I'm suddenly back in a "permanent" role. the timing just happens to coincide with the person reporting to me going on leave. Might be a coincidence. Might be Maybelline.
At the same time, I've got an offer from Deloitte. It's an 8-month contract with possible conversion to full-time. On paper, the contract aspect makes me nervous - spent the last year living in a state of professional whiplash. On the other hand, it would finally get me out of agency life, which at this point feels less like a career path and more like a hostage situation with timesheets.
Would love some honest thoughts.
