Honestly, that's the norm for most of us early on. It feels backwards - the product building is the hard part in theory, but the client acquisition drags on much longer than anyone admits. 🔍 You can have a crystal-clear value prop, a live demo site ready to go, and even absorb the upfront risk-but none of that matters if you can't get people into the room (or the Zoom).
📡 Without an existing network or some kind of reach, every outreach feels like shouting into the void. you know you can solve their problem, but you can't even get them to pause long enough to hear you out.
🧠 The product side is actually the easy part when you've built it once or twice. the hard bit is the constant, grinding sales motion that relies on trust you haven't had time to build yet.

it's a chicken-and-egg thing: you need clients to build social proof, but you need social proof to get clients. feels a bit f*cked when you've done all the hard work on the solution side

Honestly, I get the frustration, but i think the whole "network or bust" thing gets overblown. i wrote a post offering value in a space I knew well, answering questions people actually had. Within a week, someone reached out wanting exactly what i described. had zero network beforehand - just showed up, listened, built what they asked for, and sold it.

Look, it's not about "exposure". it's about showing up and giving before you ask. A lot of folks want a magic shortcut, but the real work is in being genuinely useful. networks help, but they're not the only way.

That's a really good point, and I think it gets to the heart of something a lot of us wrestle with. The value we create is obviously visible to the people who experience it directly - our customers - which naturally loops back into networking and word of mouth. but if we want to step outside that circle, we have to find ways to translate that value into something prospective clients can see before they buy.

It's almost like building a bridge between the experience and the promise. you can't just rely on people passing along the story, you need to actively surface that value in a way that resonates with strangers. that's where strategy, positioning, and content come in. Not about being loud - just being clear.

and yeah, I'm not sure generational labels really help here either. people are people.
