Been there. Called it 'lunchbox SEO' years ago.
Five years across three agencies. Account counts:
120.
93.
50 that ballooned to 75.
It's a joke. Impossible to do real work. the agency wants you to run a meta title pass on every account each month. we all know that's barely a tickle, not SEO that moves needles. But the whole operation is built on deliverables - shiny things to justify the retainer while clients stay none the wiser.
got written up more than once for actually telling clients what works. You've got morals. That's rare in this game.
best move? start looking elsewhere now. In the meantime, map out the high-impact, low-effort changes you can make. wish I'd had something like Claude back then - could've done real work at scale. instead you'll spend your days patching leaks and preventing cancellations. Small bursts. Fires everywhere.
Dental SEO? Drop me a line. Did that shit for years. finally escaped three years ago - went in-house, ended up with a dipshit CEO who wanted products de-indexed because of "keyword cannibalisation from blogs." I refused. He fired me. fine by me.
i'll commiserate. I'll be a reference. I'll sing your praises to anyone who listens.
Keep your head down. Assume your manager is useless. Play the board accordingly.
May the odds be ever in your favour.
