Been manually tracking whether our brand shows up in ChatGPT and Perplexity responses for 6 weeks and i swear I've aged 3 years 😅
Got a Google Sheet with 47 prompts I run through each LLM weekly, ctrl+F our name, log if we got mentioned. Takes 4 hours every Monday. My manager asked me to 'build a dashboard' for this and I nearly quit on the spot.
Results don't even stay consistent - same prompt Tuesday vs Thursday gave completely different brands. one day we're top 3, next day we don't exist.
Side note: wasted 2 hours trying to define the difference between 'mentioned' and 'recommended' in LLM responses because leadership wants clean metrics. Still no answer.
Someone in the replies pointed out that LLM visibility is more about repeated semantic association over time than static rankings - that rang true for me. The tricky part is separating random mentions from actual buyer intent visibility.
Is anyone doing this at scale, or are we all pretending? Is there a tool category for this, or is everyone stuck in spreadsheet hell? 🤷♀️
