It's funny how the data tells one story but the reality tells another. i've noticed the same thing with our own analytics - nearly zero AI referral traffic, yet we know people are coming from ChatGPT and similar tools. They just aren't clicking through from the chat interface. instead, they get the answer they need (product name, key feature, whatever), close the chat, and open a fresh browser tab to type the URL directly. Makes perfect sense from a user's perspective - they trust the brand enough to go straight there, but that trust bypasses all the nice attribution tracking we set up. for me, it's a reminder that the user's journey is fundamentally more fragmented than our tools can measure. We spend so much effort optimising for click-throughs, but the real behaviour is more like "I found what i need, now I'll go get it my own way."
