Happy to share what this looks like from the paid social side?! 🙂
A normal day/week:
Mondays are mostly reporting and optimizations. Tuesdays get eaten up by client syncs, Wednesdays by internal ones. Thursdays are planning, more optimizations, and weekly 1:1s, then Friday is admin and wrapping the week up.
What I genuinely enjoy:
The client relationships I've built, honestly, plus getting to problem-solve all day. Paid social platforms change damn near every day, which is frustrating at times, but it keeps you on your toes.
What's stressful:
So many clients hire marketers because they don't understand marketing. Depending on the client, there's a ton of hand-holding and education involved, and that can be a real barrier to making actual progress.
Agency, in-house, or freelance?
Agency-side for five-plus years now.
Creativity vs. analytics:
Paid social is a solid mix of both. Ads on social don't work without strong creative, so there's a lot of creative analysis and testing alongside the numbers.
Work-life balance:
It ebbs and flows. some stretches are around 35 hours a week, others push past 45. Q4 is usually rough, especially BFCM when you're working on Thanksgiving. ðŸ«
Remote work:
Plenty of companies are rolling out RTO mandates, but there are still lots of WFH roles out there.
How I landed my first role:
Started in-house doing organic social, then spent about seven months unemployed during covid. A college friend applied to an agency for a paid social position, didn't get it, and told me to apply. Funny how that works out.
Most useful skills:
Problem solving, critical thinking, and being proactive instead of reactive.
Starting fresh in 2026:
Measurement, incrementality, and attribution. that's where the industry is heading.
