I've been digging into Google Ads and analytics lately, and every job listing I see expects Meta Ads too. It's like you can't be a specialist anymore without being dragged into the creative side of things. My problem is that Meta Ads seems to rely heavily on creative concepts, and that's just not my wheelhouse. I can build a campaign, optimise bids, analyse funnels - but ask me to come up with a compelling image or video concept and I'm lost.
so the real question: do I swallow the pill and learn Meta Ads despite my creative shortcomings, or do I double down on Google Ads and try to become the go-to person for search, shopping, and display? I've heard people say Meta doesn't require high-end design - you can throw up an ugly ad and it still performs if the targeting is right. That gives me some hope. Others argue that in many industries, the strategist and the creative should be separate roles anyway. But the job market doesn't seem to agree.
What else complements Google Ads without demanding creativity? Analytics, tag manager, basic CRO - those are on my list. But am I missing something that would make me a stronger candidate without having to become a designer?
Curious how others have navigated this tension between platform specialisation and the constant push to be a unicorn.
