Been thinking lately that "time saved" might be the wrong scorecard for AI tools entirely.
If a tool spits something out in thirty seconds but then i spend twenty minutes fact-checking, rewriting the voice, moving files around, and verifying it didn't hallucinate... did I actually save anything? Or did I just trade one kind of work for another?
The pattern I keep seeing:
AI writes twenty social posts I have to rewrite from scratch. ❌
Content batch shows up finished and I only approve a couple tweaks. ✅
AI summarizes a research dump. ❌
I get the actual report or deck i needed to make a decision. ✅
AI explains how to build a simple site. ❌
Site is live and i can edit it. ✅
That distinction - clever answer versus finished artifact - is why Runable caught my attention. less "here's how to think about this" and more "here's the thing you needed."
For the small business operators here: what's one AI tool that has genuinely erased a recurring task from your calendar? Not accelerated it. Removed it.
The litmus test a colleague mentioned: if you canceled the subscription tomorrow, would your week get harder? If the answer is no, it was never doing the job.
Another put it bluntly: ten seconds to generate, twenty-five minutes to babysit. That's not automation. That's just a slower workflow with better marketing.
only thing that's passed that test for me so far: meeting notes. First AI tool where i genuinely stopped doing a task instead of doing the same task "with AI."
What's yours?
