Been there. For us at the agency, the hierarchy is surprisingly simple: referrals first, then partnerships, then content. Everything else just burned time.
Referrals drive about sixty percent of our signed deals. Nothing fancy - deliver solid work, then actually ask. We reach out around month three or four, once the client sees real results and is genuinely happy. That one message outperforms any automated sequence we've built.
Partnerships are criminally underrated. Web agencies, dev and UX freelancers, Ads consultants - two or three real relationships keep the pipeline full. Takes a couple months to get momentum, that's it.
Content was the long game. Twelve to eighteen months before it brought in anything serious. Now it's three to five inbound leads monthly, and they're the best qualified by far. They already know how we work, so the sales cycle is half as long.
What failed: cold email (volume, sure, but everyone negotiates price) and LinkedIn Sales Navigator. Pulled the plug after six months.
The real unlock? Stopping the generalist act. Once we planted our flag in a specific niche, referrals started circulating on their own.
