Resigned two months ago because work frustration had started seeping into my personal life. Product marketing was never about churning out AI workflows with no metrics and little regard for quality. Yet that's what my manager demanded. My daily tasks boiled down to managing the CEO's LinkedIn shares and copying workflows.
Five months I waited, hoping the data would speak for itself. Instead, an agency was hired to build more workflows. I once spent time on a detailed quarterly strategy document, outlining rationale and execution. During our one-to-one, my manager uploaded the document into Claude and asked it to validate the logic. That was AI sycophancy in action.
Now the fear is that wherever I go next, the same mindset awaits. Money isn't urgent, but starting a new role within six months would be ideal.
Two paths seem to exist. One: accept that here in India, most B2B SaaS dev tool companies lack strong brand or marketing - so treat the job as a high-value transaction and find joy elsewhere. Two: pursue a company with an established marketing team and recognised brand, though those are mostly Western-headquartered and domestic opportunities may be lost.
Advice would be appreciated. I've heard comments that AI will replace most marketing roles, so becoming the AI marketing person or switching careers might be the only options. Another perspective suggested that simply sprinkling AI into the work satisfies many. Not sure that's the answer, but open to hearing what others think.
