Looking to buy a B2B agency - my criteria

I've been thinking about acquisitions quite a bit lately. The macro environment is making it a buyer's market in a weird way - plenty of quality shops feeling squeezed but still generating real demand.

What I'm after is a small to mid-sized agency with a B2B sales or growth marketing focus. Owner-operator run, at least a year in business, and a decent track record of filling pipelines. Doesn't need to be flawless - just proven. Think cold email/outbound, appointment setting, or content-led demand gen.

I'm not looking to replace the founder. Ideally you'd stay on for a year or so to help scale what you've built. If that resonates, drop me a line.

How they handle technical implementation. Most small agencies rely on one person for everything from GA4 to GTM to CRM integrations. that person usually leaves after acquisition.
Client concentration. More than 20 clients sounds healthy, but if the top three bring in 40% of revenue, you've got risk.
tracking hygiene. I've seen agencies run Screaming Frog once a quarter and call it "tech SEO." Dig into their analytics setup - broken conversions are a silent killer.

I've watched this happen with a couple of agencies I've worked alongside. The cold email and appointment setting space has gone mad on multiples recently. Buyers are pricing in churn because deliverability is a nightmare - one Google policy tweak can wipe out 30% of revenue overnight. If you're selling, have your last 12 months of reply rates and meeting-booked rates ready before any serious conversation starts. That's the first thing they ask for.

cold email scraping for B2B agency acquisition? that's a commodity play, not a strategy. anyone can buy a list. the real challenge is pipeline velocity and conversion-scraping won't fix a broken sales process. if you're acquiring an agency, you need a repeatable revenue engine, not more inbox clutter

Knowing the revenue range would really help narrow things down. Revenue is a good starting point to understand the scale and what you're stepping into. Are we talking low six figures, or pushing towards seven figure territory? Those are very different beasts in terms of capacity, team size, and how the agency runs.

thanks. i've been called out on that vague definition before. When i say small, i mean under 20 clients and fewer than 5 staff. That's lean enough to navigate without the inertia of a bigger ship.

that's a really interesting angle - have you considered whether buying something that tiny is actually worth it? 😊 Wouldn't it be cheaper to go after those clients yourself? the client-to-employee ratio means those clients would have to be pretty chunky in revenue. honestly, with just one or two people you can easily handle 10-20 clients
