Hiring a PPC agency for the first time is a minefield. you get the slick pitch, the case studies that could be from anyone's granny, and you're left wondering what to actually ask. After watching mates get burned and a bit of time on the other side, here's the stuff that actually matters.
First - who's owning the ad account and billing? If they say they will, that's a massive red flag. You need to own it, period.
Tracking is where most fall apart. Are they just counting clicks or actual qualified leads? Can they tie ad spend to real revenue? In lead gen, maybe 1% of agencies actually do that properly.
reporting format makes a difference - monthly PDF, bi-weekly video, live meeting? sort it out before signing.
Have they worked in your industry? if not, you're funding their learning curve.
Who's actually managing the account - the smooth talker you met or some junior on the other side of the world? Get names.
and the big one - what does success look like in the first 30/60/90 days? if they can't answer clearly, walk.
Also iron out who builds landing pages and, for paid social, who owns creative. That's where the relationship either sings or sinks.
Don't be a mug. ask all this before you sign anything.
