I'm dealing with a similar gap right now. Traditional attribution completely falls apart when someone asks Claude "best CRM for mid-market SaaS" and your brand gets mentioned, but then they ghost for two weeks before showing up as "direct traffic."
The honest answer is there's no perfect solution yet. Most attribution tools weren't built for this. I've been manually adding a field in HubSpot asking "How did you first hear about us?" on discovery calls. Simple, but at least 40% of our recent pipeline mentioned an AI tool when asked directly, which never showed in our analytics.
There are some early tools trying to track brand mentions across LLMs (like Profound and Enpoint), but I haven't tested them yet. They supposedly ping you when your brand appears in AI responses and try to connect it back to your CRM.
The makeshift approach that's helped us is combining that manual question with UTM parameters in any content we specifically optimise for AI discovery. Not elegant, but it's giving us some visibility until better solutions mature.
What percentage of your pipeline do you reckon is actually coming through AI discovery based on those post-call interviews?
