Two comments from my last post have been living in my head rent-free.

"How do you deal with hallucinations? It feels risky to trust an AI assistant to run everything."

"I want to automate more with AI but I'm hesitant, in case it causes errors."

Same fear, two different people. And honestly? Totally valid.

Because I saw the same thing online this week with hundreds of upvotes: "The chat gets long. Quality drops. It forgets what I said 40 messages ago. So I start over and lose everything."

This is the #1 thing holding smart business owners back from actually using AI for real work. Not the tools. Not the subscription. The trust.

And I want to show you exactly how I solved it.

I use AI for my own marketing work every single day. So when I say this is the thing that separates someone who gets consistent, reliable output from someone who keeps fighting the AI, it's because I've seen both sides across dozens of setups.

But before I get into what context engineering is, you need to see what's actually happening when AI "forgets" or "hallucinates."

There's a problem hiding in plain sight.

Your AI has a "context window" - a limited amount of text it can hold in memory at one time. As you keep filling that window with more instructions, more corrections, more back-and-forth, the AI starts losing track of the earlier stuff.

It's like trying to find one specific sentence in a 200-page document while someone keeps adding new pages.

This is called "context rot." Anthropic (the company that makes Claude) actually published a full engineering guide on it, defining it as "the art and science of curating what goes into the limited context window."

It's a real engineering concept. Not just something I made up.

And here's the part that really stings.

When you correct the AI and it makes the same mistake again and you correct it again, you're actually teaching it a bad pattern.

One engineer named Dex Horathy calls this the "dumb zone" because the AI is basically a prediction machine and it now sees a pattern of: "I made a mistake → human corrected me → I again made a mistake → human again corrected me" so it just keeps on making the mistake, because that's what it predicts should happen next.

The fix isn't to argue with it harder.

The fix is to never let it get there in the first place.

So how do you actually do that? Here's what changed everything for me.

SKILLS (REPEATABLE INSTRUCTIONS).

Instead of re-explaining how I want things done every single time, I save those instructions as "skills" - basically text files that the AI reads automatically before it starts working.

So when I speak into Wispr Flow (a voice-to-text tool) for 5 minutes to create a post like this one, the AI already knows my voice, my frameworks, my formatting rules, everything, because it loaded all of that before I even started talking.

Like this I never have to reteach anything and the output is consistent every single time. I'm literally not even editing these posts anymore because the skill already knows exactly how I write.

That's the difference between someone who spends 45 minutes correcting AI and someone who speaks for 5 to 7 minutes and gets a finished post.

SUB-AGENTS (DIGITAL EMPLOYEES THAT WORK AT THE SAME TIME).

This is the one that really changed the game.

Instead of doing everything in one conversation and filling up the window, I tell Claude to spawn "sub-agents" - meaning it splits the task into multiple smaller AI workers that each focus on one specific thing and each one gets its own fresh window.

So if I need to analyze a week's worth of sales calls, I don't do that in my main chat. I just tell Claude to create a task list and spawn a sub-agent for each call, and each one works in its own clean context. The main window stays focused and can orchestrate without getting confused.

What I've found is that for me and a lot of other smart marketers, this is actually how you avoid hallucination in practice, because each agent only has to deal with one focused task instead of trying to juggle 50 things at once.

And the beautiful part: Claude does this automatically. You just tell it what you need and it figures out when to split the work. No code required.

ORCHESTRATION (YOUR MAIN WINDOW AS A DISPATCHER, NOT A WORKER).

The biggest mistake I see is someone who tries to do everything in one single chat: fetching data, analyzing it, writing copy, formatting it, all in the same window. By the time they're halfway through, the window is so full that the AI starts making basic mistakes.

What I do instead is use the main window purely as a dispatcher. It sends the work to sub-agents, collects the results, and makes decisions. The heavy lifting happens somewhere else so the main window barely gets filled.

One of my favorite prompts is literally: "Create a task list for this project and spawn a sub-agent for each step sequentially." Then it just handles everything while I go make coffee.

Now let me show you what this actually looks like in practice.

WEEKLY SALES CALL ANALYSIS.

I give it a folder of recorded sales calls (or tell it to fetch from my Fathom or Fireflies - you can connect Claude to your notetaker and it automatically pulls up the recordings). Then Claude spawns a sub-agent for each call, gets the transcript, finds the top objections, pulls out the exact language prospects use, and automatically turns those objections into marketing angles and copy hooks. I can take a whole week of calls and turn them into a month of content angles without listening to a single recording myself.

AD DATA TO COPY ANGLES.

I tell it to pull my ad performance data from Meta, connect it to Microsoft Clarity to find where people are dropping off, and then suggest which copy angles to test next based on what's actually working. What used to require logging into 3 different dashboards, exporting CSVs, and building spreadsheets is now one single conversation.

CONTENT MACHINE.

This is the one that blows people's minds. I speak into Wispr Flow for 5-10 minutes about a topic. Claude researches my knowledge base, pulls relevant frameworks, structures the post following my voice guide, and delivers it ready to publish. I'm creating these posts this way right now. Every single one.

Now, I know what some of you are thinking: "This sounds too complicated. I'm not an engineer!"

And here's the thing - you don't need to be. The whole point of context engineering is that you set it up once and then you just talk to the AI normally. The skills live as text files. The sub-agents spawn automatically. The orchestration happens behind the scenes.

The hardest part is understanding that the problem was never about prompting better. It was about managing what the AI sees and when it sees it.

Once you get that, everything clicks.

And look, here's why this matters right now. McKinsey's latest data shows about 70% of companies are already implementing AI, and SMB adoption nearly doubled in the last year alone, going from 22% to 38%. Multi-agent setups show about 85% better consistency compared to single-agent approaches.

The gap between someone who understands context engineering and someone who's still just "prompting better" is getting wider every single week.
