I've been sitting on a #1 Google ranking for six years on Wix, but the e-commerce limitations are getting painful. thinking about moving to Shopify, but SEO is the elephant in the room.

here's the thing: any platform migration introduces risk, but it's manageable if you treat it like a surgical procedure rather than a rebuild. The biggest mistake people make is changing content, structure, and platform all at once. That's asking for a ranking nosedive.

key technical considerations:

301 redirects are non-negotiable. Shopify has its own URL conventions for products and collections (e.g., /products/slug vs. whatever Wix generated). Map every existing URL to its new counterpart before you flip the DNS. a simple CSV mapping works:

/old-product-page,/products/new-product-slug,301
/old-category,/collections/new-category,301

Preserve content verbatim during cutover. Don't rewrite product descriptions or restructure navigation until the new site has settled for at least 2-4 weeks. You want only one variable changing at a time.
Internal link structure matters. Shopify's blog and page hierarchy differ from Wix. Audit your internal links pre-migration and replicate the same linking patterns.

Will you see a dip? Possibly, especially if the site has hundreds of pages. for smaller sites (under 1,000 SKUs), the impact is often negligible if redirects are clean. the rankings usually recover within a few weeks.
